Peeling the onion, layer by layer..

Life in the Barbet world, is not a lot of fun. Never has been..In fact it’s all about who badmouths who and when. It’s not at all, nor has it ever been about dogs. Scrtach the surface and you quickly get to the smelly part.Promotion of their own breed and that one has nothing to do with history!

There is an added dimension..and that being many breeders are running out of “new” blood and scraping the bottom of their drawers…using studs who are younger and younger and over and over..and the habitual breeding for color.

Recently, and probably because of the publication of the easy to understand factual history of the breed, Barbet Moderne breeders felt the necessity to launch an attack led by Pontius Pilate,  whose job is to thrash people for money..but never deal with the breed ..mandated by our old totalitarian breeders whose income depends on their sales of a myth, created in 1990 and “threatened with extinction”!

My head always sticking out for facts and truth, was of course the aim of the skud, with a  mission : kindness.. nothing again to do with the dogs..

Sadly, jealousy and envy are doing their best for the breed and time is ticking.

I am a purist, I got to 5 generations of healthy dogs..with the perfect historical type I wanted. http://barbet-frenchwaterdog.com/water-dogs/griffons-and-the-likes/vieux-barbet-or-griffon-barbet/

I was asked many times if I was a breeder. Well, it’s like being bi-cultural. Which do you feel more? Well, it all clicked in my mind and no I am not a breeder. I just want to prove that breeding to obtain proper results as far as type/morphology and temperament, IS do-able when you take the time to evaluate the results, not to compete for sales and to sit back and smell the roses. Now, I am smelling my roses and enjoying them….

You say you want a Barbet?

Dis moi Duna, birthday coming up. She will be 5. 57 cms 26k. Represents a perfect  the Barbet Moderne, rare breed..not threatened with extinction, because re-created in the early 1990’s. Nice, tall and heavy and square. Nice and cute.

Out with the Old, in with the New?

2018..the year when hypocrisy, false paternity declarations, no club for the “orphan” breed and the French Kennel club laying low…none of it being their problem. Their reason for being? ..that everyone get along and not make waves.

Many wish that the SCC or French cynology would appreciate more the value of “old blood” as breeds, bloodlines or part of bloodlines and protect that and make that more important as weight than hierarchic and bureaucratic procedures. That not all responsability should be thrown blindly on the table of breed clubs, but that preservation of old breeds should always be taken first and its concern should be on a higher rank than administrative procedures.
Breed clubs have to be checked, if they are still functional, so for the breed and not for the personalities and personal honours. If people outside clubs complain about the clubs, something should be done about it by analyzing what’s going on, without nasty friendship politics.
If a population under one name developed over the decades into 2 different, and not (or only very little) related breeds, belonging to different breed groups, and intentionally never meant to belong to the same breed, then a separation in the pedigree book is most wishful.( asked for years and years ago!)
For each one some kind of commission can be formed, in order to adjust the correct standard for each of them. It would be logical when the population, not bred according the standard of the original breed, should be nominated to be recognized as a new breed, under a separate name.
This is the best chance to avoid unnecessary and endless quarrels. After some time for each of them the commissions can develop into a breed club for each of one.
Pr Denis said the same words years ago, and was ignored, by the SCC. Their main interest is not breed preservation or we’d know it.
Some figures to ponder:
17 300 000 clicks on Google for the Labradoodle
4 870 000 clicks for the Barbet ” Moderne”
333 000 clicks for thr Vieux Barbet.
Shows rapidly which is rarest and most threatened.
Barbet Moderne is fine and not more than a pedigreed Labradoodle.
