Since this morning early when I read your pm, I have to admit I have been torn between extreme sadness and very extreme anger about the death of Ela Samba. It was an accident, ok..or not ok, but she is gone now. Yes, she was your companion who followed you everywhere and always wanted to make you happy and you will miss her sorely and and..and yes, … she was born in the wrong kennel: mine. She was through you, hasseled all the time, by that Swiss Kräusli club where you do what you are told, lay low and shut up or you are out. You never accepted that because you fought for her and through her, you fought for the old breed or Vieux Barbet which she represented.
She was the symbol of your resistance to Renate Zuber who has always made sure people were to stay away from because your dogs were badbadbad..since you did not want to be submissive and accept her “rules”. So, she threw you out of her Kräusli club..to make more space for her own master race and not answer any questions. I have said in the past and repeat..eugenics as a way of breeding to eradicate the old breed, is not “just” a historical concept.
Ela Samba will live on through her progeny and through Arlan de l’Aubépine..a feat not many will have ever accomplished and she did it. Thank you for all your work for the Vieux Barbet Ela Samba and Carmela. My heart and my thoughts are with you.
Retaliations being part of the Barbet world…it has been extremely difficult to support the old breed or VIEUX BARBET and those people who venture down that path..at best get slandered and at worse? Their dogs get badmouthed as “sick“..
Voilà, voilà. Nothing more to say, but the proof is there.
Ela Samba de la serve de la chapelle d’Alexandre. Died of complications after mammel surgery. 5.12.09-3.4.19.
When all is said and done.. Coccolina is hanging in there and so is GuyGuy. Some days are better than others. He eats ok +, depending on the meal and the day, which I very as much as possible, within reason. He still demands his walk even if I have to hold him real tight, he trips a lot. I help him get in and out of the car. He can be knocked over by another dog, so I have to watch him closely when he is outside. He is very aware of everything that is going on.
I am sharing this with you because it is really important to be aware of. He is going on 13 and Coccolina is 14+.We do not have a lot of records of how long Barbets live and of couse which lines..
Neither take any medication for anything, but I do give GuyGuy what I can every so often to help him move more easily..and I massage him every morning before he “gets up” and even then, I help him stand up because like old folks, he is stiff. He weighs around 23k which is still what he has weighed most of his life. The steroids are helping him stand properly and probably move better too.
Nothing to say about Coccolina..she is a trooper!
There are a few pups still available..
What a nice souvenir of a very very homogenous litter..
By that, I also mean all the dogs concerned are living under the same roof. That is not an easy feat to accomplish. You definitely know the dogs and their personality.
This is my friend Walda in the Netherlands.
This is where Isabeau ( Iabada) von der Leibrücke comes from. You look at the pups and you see how homogenous looking the all are. That is a sign!
If you were wondering how the mating went back in September..have a look!
The 2017 litter which was a fifth generation litter was a very very nice one. The pups have grown nicely..I need to do it again. Below you can see Grand-pa Compay II, his Grandson Nat-King and Nat-King’s father French Lover (on the right).Iabada will do her best! All my dogs are with me and we wish them well!
