Injudicious Breed Clubs ..the English version.

Recently, I read the hot news from the American Barbet Club, spreading the message in a world-wide barbet forum on facebook! Worth knowing? Not much!
In their posts, it is to be read that 27% barbet is the carrier of the eye disease Prcd-PRA. This figure is calculated on 33 tested barbets. Nothing about the size of the total population or the test’s design and origin, selection, whether the test is validated for the barbet? How many are affected and is it a problem for the breed in whole? Are breeders and stud owners testing their old dogs used in breeding to follow up their own evaluation?
It is a great opportunity to educate, but instead, the breed club blows up a scarecrow that completely lacks anchoring in a wider perspective. Misleading information that creates anxiety and fear is definitely the wrong way to go if we want to enlighten and guide to help. How can we track a source when we refuse to recognize the background of our dogs? Can we be helped by studying the health history of the other breeds actually in the barbet? As usual, few facts are provided surrounded by a variety of many many unanswered questions.
We stare ourselves blind to an isolated detail while we refuse to recognize our dogs originate. To create perspective, to understand and get a more complete picture of reality. Of course, we need verified information, but we must not forget the great value of education in how to interpret and use these data.
Breed clubs are informers and guides and should think carefully before they publish their information. The Swedish Breed Club has acted irresponsible, the American show the same tactics. The Swiss Breed Club makes its own guidelines that benefit some and disadvantages others. A fact that has now led owners to go abroad to mate their females and thus get their puppies registered in other countries. The French Breed Club cracked and SCC (the French Kennel Club) seems (?) to be the one who took over responsibility for the Barbet. In Britain, with its distinguished Kennel Club (KC), the barbet is not yet an approved breed, instead, breeders register their dogs in France. Misleading the statistics, which also imparts an incorrect picture of reality. The German Breed Club for Barbet wrote with good review in their latest news that the French Breed Club reached the end of the road. The big question is if we do not jointly lead the breed on the same track when we inferiorly ignore both knowledge and education?

My 2 cents’: We have nothing but super experts in all these breed clubs who are always ready and willing to guide you with their prophecy…but when all is said and done? I am not sure they even know what a Barbet is. But they will show you how to..

People need to get angry about what some are doing to the breed Barbet. Only then…

When an allmighty self acclaimed “expert” dictates what can happen or not in the barbet world, it’s time to say “stop“. A bimbo does not decide about a breed and what it looks like, nor does her sidekick.

After 35 years, back to the drawing board.

It now appears that after years and years …and years of nothing, we now have the real nothing. The club is dead, long live the club.

I will not waste precious time on the issue that I have been talking about for a long time. Well, it came to a head and blew up in the president’s face which serves his nastiness right. JCHermans wants his club back, so he fought tooth and nail but cannot survive it on his own.

Now there will be a petit combat de coqs  with the petits derniers deciding to go for it..wait and see.I have rarely seen a nastiest bunch of people around such a nice breed and I think it serves them right.

What no one ever got through their head is that to build the future you must learn from the past, even great French cooks do it…we are in France..

Speaking of cusine..and one of my favorites: Black Forest cake, you can get the best, the creative:

…and what is  of mass production, and many are happy with it.

Enjoy your Barbet Moderne future, Long live the Vieux Barbet..de France.

Past and present again: the VIEUX BARBET!

In the previous post you saw Iorga from 1973..now, here is Trident at a field trial, in 1983. 10 years later..NatK and Trident are very similar in morphology and type.https://pawpeds.com/db/?a=p&id=784696&g=4&p=bar&date=iso&o=ajgrep. Selection was on type not on pedigree…

More obvious is that the is no poodle in Trident. There is in NatK, but I selected away from the Poodle type. Otherwise, I would have a Barbet Moderne and I have not worked for the breed to have a 65cms/35k type of re-incarnated Poodle, de Buffon.

All in all, the past cannot just be erased, ignored and ridiculed..and some can do their best to thrash dogs and people but facts are facts.

I did my my way…My proudest achievement!

…back to the beginning, my beginning and the real Barbet, a Vieux Barbet that does not look like a Poodle or a crossbreed fashion designer dog. I can sit down and admire this pedigree…and thank everyone who helped achieve this major feat in the Barbet world.

Birthday: Vennie and Froggy 2015 litter!

7 out of 11 is not bad..2 at guide school for the blind (one reformed)..One in Alsace and another in Paris.Maybe we will have news for next year! These are all doing well…Happy birthday and many many more!

Setting and reaching objectives.

After 10 litters and 81 puppies, selection work to my 5th generation, the highest SCC selection grid ( highest cotations SCC: results of all Barbets), several champions in France and in foreign countries, guide dogs for the blind, dogs with BCE/BICP ( hunting trials on natural instinct since I am not a hunter) and reaching objectives set in 2003…I can now step back and enjoy the result of my work. I do not like what I am seeing in France at all, and have decided to step back and smell the roses in my garden for a while.

There are some very very pretentious, pompous and nasty, incompetent people who are in it for the money, have no competences in the breed ( have not a clue what a Barbet is) and who respect nothing and no one. So be it. Suffice to read what belittling stupid infantile comments are posted on a socutesonice social network. called Parlons Barbet…Rather nauseating…but nothing new in France where the breed whether Old ( Vieux Barbet) or Modern ( Poodle type) all LOF/SCC  will never ever get along. Breed club being incompetent since the beginning, in 1981..there is basically no hope left of survival of the old breed and the new Modern barbet can be assimilated to a Labradoodle, but just less expensive, quoi que…look at the average Barbet price in France, for very often a new breeder and a crossbred, crossbreed. Amazing.

On that happy note. Enjoy your Sunday. Just to reassure some, I am not going anywhere. I am here to stay and make sure people remember what a Barbet is, since many breeders do not.
