Beauty in the eye of the beholder..

Coccolina’s eye has this awful looking growth on it. It started last summer and is getting bigger, slowly but surely. Vet agrees it is unpleasant BUT it is not life-threatening. It can be removed, but I think anaesthesia could be dangerous at her advanced age. I am sharing this with you here and now because the other day when I visited her daughter Corisande, almost 13 years of age, I saw the beginning of a similar growth on HER eye. Now, if you have this removed, do it as early as possible.. Coccolina being in almost 3000 pedigrees around the world, I suspect there may be the issue somewhere and it’s best to know about it.

Otherwise, Coccolina is doing her best, eating and having her daily walks…a real trooper.

Breed identification issue. You decide?

I have been spending a bit of time on internet, “looking around” as one does..and trying to identify waterdog breeds. Well, so far I can recognize a Spanish Water Dog, a Portuguese Water Dog, a Poodle and a Lagotto. The plot thickens when it comes to the Barbet which really can look like any of them…or most likely a pure Doodle. This due to lots of myths and falsified facts that suit a breeder in need.

You decide what you want. Below a Vieux Barbet which is a Griffon and it does not look like any other waterdog. You decide if you want to be fed a line or get facts.

Be my Valentine..

Nat-King de la serve de la chapelle d’Alexandre. My 5th generation of Vieux Barbets.

…Because not everyone is on a social network…

Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

Valentine’s day is the perfect day for an announcement of importance. As many know, we are reaching the end for the old breed. After many years of working to reach my objective,I have decided to go to the next step.

I am looking for a female “outside” the box to continue the Vieux Barbet line. The ultimate objective is to use the stored “straws” of Ulysse di Barbochos Reiau de Prouvenco to help in the survival of the breed, the old breed.

She must be of proper type/morphology and temperament.

I’d rather stay away from brown.

I must be able to work with someone I can trust and there will be terms to a contract we will establish together. This will be to avoid any abuses or excesses.

Please contact me privately.

Thank you.

Move to cover ground..

What we see more and more at dog shows is some very Modern Barbet specimens and rarely the old breed.. especially in France where judges have merrily deviated on the breed and no longer can pretend they know the standard…years of mis-management that we pay for, cash. A Barbet should MOVE, Cover ground and show power and strength. They are not city window shopping dogs..

Ask me how proud I am?!

1974..a Vieux Barbet par excellence.

These 2 beauties are descendants of my French Lover de la serve de la chapelle d’Alexandre..and Giorgia della Corte dei Berberi in Italy. A very close cooperation since 2005. It takes time but it pays off. Vive le Vieux Barbet...in remembrance of The work of Mrs Hélène Pêtre and Mr Rainier T Georgii.

There are approximately 180 Barbet breeders in the world. 4/5 are Vieux Barbet breeders. It’s not a money making endeavour..Please do not think you will find one so easily.

Barbet Moderne breeders are a dime a dozen and their production is to sell dogs.

Ageing dogs and their loving people

It is quite obvious that growing old together is the best possible situation. When in 2007, I was contacted by a couple of “older” people..It never even occurred to me that they should/could not have a dog. I since then, found out that there ARE breeders around who refuse to sell people beyond a certain age..I am hallucinating., I thought.

Well, I was not…That is pure discrimination.

Corisande, 12.5 and her mom on a beautiful walk in the country.

It is obvious certain dispositions should be taken so the dog does not end up in a pound or some other horrible issue. When that is arranged up front, then all is settled and you enjoy each other.
