Interesting read below about someone who has shared “experience“. When you buy a product, whatever it may be, it must correspond to specifications…and breeder’s experience, meaning predictability and in what is called “lines”.You don’t want to get a socutesonice pup that has nothing to do with what you imagined.

You want a Barbet, but which one? The old one or the new one? Or a cross? There is not just one Barbet and if that were the case, we’d all know…and the breed would not be a hodgepodge of this and that, that have nothing to do with each other, but the name..So back to square one when the barbet ( small b to diffrentiate from the Barbet breed with a standard) was a genetic term to describe a dog, any dog, ANY SIZE with a beard, a mustache and hair that grows. The reason the is a standard was to differentiate the breed from another one with another standard. Of course all dogs are cute and we love ours, but that is NOT the point.

Text below is taken from Pr. Bernard Denis’ book about genetics…called GENETIQUE ET SELECTION CHEZ LE CHIEN.2007.

The message below is very important. Again, you do not need to like or dislike what I said, or what is being said…It’s factual and experience:

Working on Barbet history since 2003 and making un-identified generic barbets? NO.

If some are perfectly happy having a dog with a name “barbet” that can look like anything under the sun, have a herrendous coat and be nothing like what it should be, well I am not. I have been there and will never accept being told that the Barbet is the ancestor to the Poodle, it is French and très frisé.

After being hasseled for a great part of the year, being treated as “dangerous” ( because I search for truth by working on the real history of the Barbet de chasse/d’arrêt, being accused of being homophobic by someone who has nothing to say of interest or intelligence)… well, I am back in the ring and the fight goes on. What you see below are all barbets………..except for 3. Talk about “genetic variability“!

Auld Lang Syne…

One of my very very favorite Barbet videos to celebrate the joy and happiness of our Barbets and through them, …ours.
We are blessed to have such, nice, happy, friendly dogs, called Barbets!
Happy New year and bless the Barbet God, because I know there is one, for Fanny de la serve de la chapelle d’Alexandre’s coming home after having disappeared for almost 3 months and having puppies somewhere, in the meantime….
And as it says in the song, we’re one passing through..so be kind..and enjoy life for theirs is so short.

Merci Valérie…pour ce landmark!

Coccolina’s 5th…

Steady breeding and objectives make it possible. Breeding for type, character and natural ability*( and health, of course, which goes without saying)…Lovely little Velvet is not Beethoven’s, but lovely Coccolina’s 5th generation…and I am not even a breeder!barbet_velvet
