I make sure they get the best out of life since they have been so good for so many years..A state of panic yesterday when GuyGuy had a stroke. The vet said this morning it was a minor one and he is not too wobbly and a bit of medication and he should get better..He had a short walk as it was sunny ( ouf!). The other dogs are all sniffing him to see how he is..Very interesting how they all greeted him warmly this morning when he decided to get up. It was very moving.
Last Sunday, was the xxth Barbet club match in the Netherlands. Interesting facts about what was shown there. 67% of the dogs had my Coccolina in their pedigree and out of the 75 dogs present…maximum 5 looked like what the breed should look like and that is NOT A POOFED OUT POODLE-TYPE. What does that mean? It means people are more and more breeding to breed. I like the expression and I think it sums up the issue..nicely.
So sad that now they are starting to look like the Canadian/US show dogs..and needless to say that the old breed/Vieux Barbet/Old bloodlines..would never win because judges were “taught” wrongly (misinformed), that the Barbet was a Poodle.
And because, well…..and what is really “funny” is people are now looking for the type below and are calling/ contacting me.. for help in finding a dog with the old type. Well…I now refuse to help because in a litter you can get several types and I cannot dictate to a breeder what to do. So, the last person who called me was very angry and hung up on me..
Bottom line? 5/75 is 0.06 of the old type available…and that is very representative of what is going on worldwide. How fun?!
…after xxx club presidents flapped their lips and did their best to remain in the comfort zone many are in, well, what did you expect?
The French breed club and several others have done their best to destroy what was left of the old breed and make sure enough space was available for their master race..the reconstituded Poodle type. So, there you go. Rejoice. The SCC took care of the Barbet, didn’t they.
