2 varieties is a fact, not fiction or a dream..

One is threatened with extinction and the other is rare, but only because it exists since circa 1990! Fighting at French breed club has gone on for 35 years now. It began when neither you or I had a clue what a Barbet was…many came/tried and left. Not worth the insults.Club exists since 1981.

Bookwork in-process

As it stands, the work started is being shaken up by the tons of information coming in, from here and there beyond the borders of France....The breed type is still here over 100 years of proof later! It's very exciting.

As I have said and repeated, giving  club authorities a chance to make amends in an intelligent way, would be to take the MODERNE re-incarnated Barbet version as a variety..and letting the Vieux Barbet leave peacefully. Might be too much to ask for, since many are always looking for a good rumble.(slang definition)

Education and genes?

You would wonder if Vennie knows she is her grandmother...she is the one who plays the most with her and takes very good care of her on walks and in her water escapades. If you see a bit of a harness there, it is unintentional. A dog should NEVER EVER go to water with a harness. it's dangerous.

Ch-Compay II de la serve de la chapelle d’Alexandre:racer in type

Compay as a sire in the Netherlands with Astrid Vonck, of Outdoors kennel.

Compay would have never been able to have such a brilliant career, had he stayed in France. He has set his type and is at the head of a fabulous line of very typed Barbets. He will be 10 this year.

A legend has gone

Mrs Hélène Pêtre, who fought for the survival of the "VIEUX BARBET" has died at the age of 87. She was the daughter of Dr Vincenti, Kennel Mas de la Chapelle, famous in the 1930's for his work for the breed Barbet.

Her kennel name was Barbochos Reiau de Prouvenco. She gave us some great champions and continued a type of dog that she fought for( which was NOT a Poodle type). She was the expert in the breed type,"mais c'est pas un Barbet"she often used to say about dogs she saw here and there. Mr Rainier T Georgii, did his best to continue the line, meaning the TYPE. I was lucky to inherit from both of them, their archives, to (now) do my best for the old breed. We had some fun times together at her home talking up storms over her breeding and putting every detail in the right place for the future. I will miss her immensely.

If you wish to send her family a card:
